PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Paved Paradise is a mixed-use multi-income, multi-generational high-rise housing development for the MacArthur Park, Los Angeles, area. Centered around two sky-court atrium gardens—a series of non-profits are intermixed among several floors of fixed-rate, market-rate, and live-work housing. With its inclusive multi-income, and multi-participant skycourt neighborhoods—communities desiring 2-3 bedroom units cluster together on each floor alongside an accessible studio unit. A feature stair in each of the skycourts connect floor groupings within larger neighborhood clusters. The shaped parapet rooftop terrace provides for an additional community garden. With every housing unit having large corner balconies, there are ample private indoor/outdoor living spaces. Additionally, all hallways are single loaded and open to light, air, and cross-ventilation. Live-work unit options are available supporting local start-up business opportunities. Not-for-profit social service spaces are set alongside interior courtyards that can be opened-up into flexible multi-purpose spaces for larger community events. Paved Paradise’s design recalls several local Art Deco pink buildings in the neighborhood with its playful circles, squares, semi-circles, and fillet corners creating a lyrical icon echoing the vibrant history of the local community.
